Island continues... I'm having trouble keeping track of days, so I'm going to stop.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood is a tree native to south-east Aisa, and often comes in a powered form. Sandalwood, like alkanet, is insoluble in water, so it's a serious pain in the ass... but it's totally worth it.

Sandlewood Recipe

1:1 ratio.
Optional first step: You can try to dissolve the power in alcohol before you try to pour it into the water (this sometimes helps). Simmer 45min to an hour. Strain through a coffee filter. Cook fibers 45min. leave in dyebath to cool completely.

-or-

If you don’t have a coffee filter/are willing to wash the powder out of the fibers later, just toss the fibers in once the sandlewood has incorporated into the water. For me it took about 15min to dissolve. Cook 1hr at a simmer. Leave the fibers sit in the bath overnight before washing out. The colors are all really strong red-orange colors, even on the cottons.

Queen Anne's Lace

1:1 Ratio
Simmer plant tops (everything above the ground) 1 hour. Strain. Add 1/4c salt. Add fibers and cook 45min-1hr. Leave sit in pot overnight before washing out. it will give you some nice chartreuse greens

Also, a sneak peak at some of the Madder I did this morning....
